Welcome to Reiki training at Holistic Care Durham

Whether you are taking your first step into Reiki or continuing into deeper study, you will be taught with care, clarity and respect for the Japanese roots of Usui Reiki Ryoho.

My courses are centred on personal practice, the Reiki precepts, meditation, hands on healing and Reiju. Students are encouraged to experience the system for themselves rather than relying only on information, techniques or ideas about what Reiki should feel like.

Training takes place in small groups at Holistic Care Durham Therapy and Training Centre. This allows enough time for practice, questions, discussion and individual support throughout each course.

I am a Reiki Master Teacher, experienced therapist and full member of the UK Reiki Federation training with Heidi Fawkes and Frans Steine. I remain committed to my own training and practice, and I teach Reiki as a living system of self-cultivation rather than a collection of treatments or techniques.

The Reiki Training Pathway

Training is offered through three progressive levels and each course builds upon the one before it, while continuing to develop the same core foundations. Please see the Reiki pathway below. If you have any questions please reach out.

Shoden Reiki I (The Beginning Teachings)

Reiki Level One

Two-day course

Course fee: £250

Shoden means first teaching. This is the foundation of Usui Reiki Ryōhō and the beginning of the student’s personal Reiki practice. The main focus is not on becoming a practitioner or treating other people. It begins with learning how to practise Reiki for yourself and how to live alongside the Reiki precepts.

Students are introduced to the history of Reiki, the Japanese practices within the system and the importance of daily practice. The course provides a strong foundation without adding unrelated spiritual systems or modern Western ideas that were not originally part of Usui Reiki Ryōhō.

Shoden includes:

- The meaning and foundations of Usui Reiki Ryōhō

- The history of Mikao Usui, Chujiro Hayashi and Hawayo Takata

- The Reiki precepts, known as the Gokai

- Four Reiju across the two training days

- Gasshō

- Kenyoku Hō

- Joshin Kokyū Hō

- Self-treatment

- Traditional and practical hand positions

- Offering Reiki to family and friends

- Consent, boundaries and responsible practice

- How to explain Reiki accurately and professionally

- A comprehensive Shoden training manual

- Access to student support following the course

- Shoden certificate on completion

Shoden is complete in itself. Some students remain with this level for many years and continue to develop through daily practice. Students wishing to continue to Okuden are expected to practise regularly and allow time for the foundations of Shoden to become established.

Shoden Prerequisites: No previous Reiki training is required. Students should have received at least one Reiki treatment before choosing to train.

Okuden Reiki II (The Inner Teachings)

Reiki Level Two and Practitioner Development

Two-day course

Course fee: £285

Okuden means inner teaching or deeper teaching.

This stage takes the student further into the system of Usui Reiki Ryōhō. The emphasis remains on personal practice, while introducing the traditional jumon and shirushi associated with Okuden and exploring how Reiki may be offered beyond the immediate physical setting.

Okuden is not presented as stronger Reiki or an upgrade. Reiki itself does not become more powerful because another level has been completed. The student develops greater understanding, experience and responsibility through practice.

Okuden includes:

- A deeper exploration of Usui Reiki Ryōhō

- The Okuden jumon and shirushi

- Their historical context, purpose and use

- Mental and emotional Reiki practice

- Distance Reiki and connection beyond physical location

- The Japanese understanding of nen

- Hatsurei Hō

- Reiji Hō

- Chiryō Hō

- Developing sensitivity without diagnosing

- Working without trying to direct or control Reiki

- Practitioner preparation

- Client consultation and consent

- Professional boundaries

- Confidentiality, ethics and safeguarding

- Treatment structure and aftercare

- Scope of practice

- Case study guidance

- A comprehensive Okuden training manual

- Reiju during the course

- Ongoing student support

- Okuden certificate on completion

Students wishing to work professionally must complete the required practitioner case studies and demonstrate safe, ethical and responsible practice before receiving a separate practitioner certificate. Attendance at Okuden alone does not automatically confirm professional readiness.

Okuden Prerequisites: Completion of Shoden within a recognised Usui Reiki lineage, along with regular personal practice and experience of self-treatment.

Shinpiden

Reiki Master and Teacher Training

Three day in-person course with continued online development

Course fee: £590

Shinpiden means mystery teaching.

This is the advanced level of Usui Reiki Ryōhō and brings together Reiki Master practice with the foundations of learning to teach Reiki.

The three in-person training days take the student more deeply into the system as a whole. The focus remains on personal practice, self-cultivation, the Reiki precepts and developing a mature understanding of Usui Reiki Ryōhō. Students are also introduced to the responsibilities involved in teaching Reiki and offering Reiju to future students.

Shinpiden is not only for those who intend to teach. Students may complete the course for their own personal and professional development and receive their Shinpiden Reiki Master certificate without continuing towards teacher certification.

Shinpiden includes:

- The meaning and purpose of Shinpiden

- Advanced Usui Reiki Ryōhō practice

- The Shinpiden jumon and shirushi

- The historical and spiritual context of the teachings

- Hara and embodied practice

- Compassion and non-duality within Reiki

- Advanced Hatsurei Hō

- Gasshō and the Reiki precepts at Shinpiden level

- Working beyond fixed techniques and forms

- The importance of silence within Reiki practice

- Offering Reiki without directing, forcing or diagnosing

- Reiki as an ongoing practice of self-cultivation

- The responsibilities of a Reiki Master

- Reiju throughout the three training days

- A comprehensive Shinpiden training manual

- Shinpiden Reiki Master certificate following completion of the in-person course

Reiki Teacher development includes:

- The responsibilities of teaching Usui Reiki Ryōhō

- Understanding the role of a Reiki teacher

- Teaching Shoden and the foundational Japanese practices

- Structuring a Reiki course

- Planning teaching days and learning outcomes

- Preparing a Shoden course plan

- Developing a suitable Shoden student manual

- Offering Reiju within a teaching setting

- Supporting students with different learning and communication needs

- Ethics, safeguarding and professional boundaries

- Consent, confidentiality and record keeping

- Student assessment and practitioner requirements

- Accurate language and responsible marketing

- Online mentorship and guidance following the in-person training

- Review and feedback on the student’s teaching preparation

- Twelve months of free access to The Reiki Dojo

Certification

Students completing the three in-person days receive their:

Shinpiden Reiki Master Certificate

The Reiki Teacher certificate is awarded separately after the student has completed the required post-course preparation.

This includes developing a Shoden course plan and student manual, continuing their personal practice, completing the agreed online development and demonstrating a clear understanding of Reiju, student support and the responsibility involved in teaching Reiki.

Students who do not wish to teach are not required to complete this additional work.

Those who successfully complete the teacher-development requirements receive their:

Reiki Teacher Certificate

Teacher certification is not awarded through attendance alone. It recognises that the student has continued beyond the classroom, completed the required preparation and developed the understanding needed to teach Usui Reiki Ryōhō responsibly.

Continued Support Through The Reiki Dojo

All Shinpiden students receive twelve months of free membership to The Reiki Dojo.

The Reiki Dojo offers continued practice, teaching, community support and opportunities to deepen understanding beyond the course itself. This provides an ongoing connection with Reiki practice while students work with the Shinpiden teachings and, where relevant, prepare for teacher certification.

Shinpiden Master Teacher Prerequisites: Completion of Shoden and Okuden within a recognised Usui Reiki lineage, an established personal practice, and experience of offering Reiki to others. A conversation with Leanne is advised before booking

Learning Reiki With Me

I first trained within a Western Reiki lineage and, like many practitioners, was originally taught a mixture of Reiki and later additions. As my practice developed, I began asking deeper questions about what Mikao Usui taught, how Reiki developed in Japan and what had been added as the system moved through the West. That research changed how I practise and teach.

My courses now focus on the five elements of the system of Reiki:

- The Reiki precepts

- Meditation and breathing practices

- Hands-on healing

- Shirushi and jumon at the appropriate levels

- Reiju

You will be taught in a way that is grounded, practical and historically careful. Where the evidence is uncertain, I will say so. Students are not expected to accept claims without question, and there is space throughout each course for discussion and honest enquiry.

A Supportive Learning Environment

People come to Reiki training for many different reasons. Some are looking for a personal practice during a difficult or changing period of life. Others wish to support family members, develop professional practitioner skills or eventually teach. You do not need to arrive feeling confident or spiritually knowledgeable. You only need a sincere interest in Reiki and a willingness to practice.

I understand that students learn and process information differently. As an autistic and dyslexic teacher, I place great importance on clear explanations, readable course materials and a learning environment where questions are welcomed.

Choosing the Right Level

Begin with Shoden if you have not previously trained in Reiki.

Choose Okuden if you have completed Shoden or Reiki Level One within a recognised Usui Reiki lineage and have developed a regular personal practice.

Shinpiden is for students who have completed Okuden or Reiki Level Two and are ready for deeper personal study and teacher development.

Students who have trained elsewhere are welcome to contact me before booking so that we can discuss their previous learning and identify the most appropriate level.
