Okuden Reiki Level Two Training
Okuden means inner teachings. This two day in-person course develops the foundations established during Shoden and introduces the three traditional Okuden shirushi and jumon. These teachings are frequently described in the West as Reiki symbols and mantras. Within this course, they are studied as practices for personal development rather than tools used to control, direct or increase the power of Reiki.
Okuden deepens the student’s understanding of ki, connection and the qualities represented by each teaching. It also begins the professional practitioner stage for those who wish to offer Reiki to the public.

What Is Okuden?
Okuden may be translated as inner teachings. At this level, students move more deeply into the practices of Usui Reiki Ryōhō while continuing to work with the foundations learned during Shoden.
The course introduces three shirushi and three jumon. Each teaching points towards a particular quality or understanding within the student’s own practice. Their purpose is not to provide a faster or stronger form of Reiki. They support concentration, the cultivation of ki and a deeper understanding of connection.

The Shirushi and Jumon
The three Okuden shirushi and jumon are taught within their Japanese context. You will learn how to draw, pronounce and practise with them, but the teaching goes beyond remembering their form. Each one offers a way of deepening personal practice and recognising qualities already present within us. They are not used as magical commands, and they do not make Reiki more powerful. Their value develops through meditation, repetition, experience and continued study.
Distance Reiki
Okuden includes the study and practice of distance Reiki. Students explore connection beyond physical location and learn how Reiki may be offered when a recipient is not present in the room. Distance work is always offered with consent and appropriate boundaries. It is not used to diagnose, predict outcomes, interfere with another person’s decisions or provide psychic readings.
Professional Practitioner Development
Okuden is the level at which students may begin working towards professional Reiki practitioner status. Professional practice requires more than completing a two-day course. Students must have sufficient personal experience, appropriate boundaries and a sound understanding of consent, confidentiality and scope of practice.
Those wishing to work with the public will complete the required case studies, treatment records and practitioner development before receiving a separate practitioner certificate.
Reiju
One Reiju is offered during the Okuden course. Receiving Reiju continues to support the student’s personal practice and relationship with the teachings.
