Shinpiden Reiki Master Teacher Training

Three-Day Advanced Usui Reiki Ryōhō & Teacher Training

Shinpiden is the third level of Usui Reiki Ryōhō and the level at which I teach both advanced Reiki practice and preparation to become a Reiki teacher. At Holistic Care Durham, I do not separate Shinpiden from teacher training. You may complete this level because you want to deepen your own Reiki practice and never teach professionally, and that is completely fine. However, the teacher training is included so that if you do choose to teach, you have been properly prepared to do so.

This is a substantial three-day course. We do not spend three days simply learning another symbol and receiving another Reiju. We return to the complete system of Reiki, deepen what was learned at Shoden and Okuden, explore Dai Kōmyō and the teachings connected with Shinpiden, learn how Reiju is practised and taught, and begin looking at Reiki from the responsibility of the teacher as well as the student.

All Manuals and Teaching Materials Are Included

One of the biggest differences with this training is that you are not simply given a certificate and sent away to work out how to teach Reiki by yourself. I have spent a considerable amount of time developing the manuals, teaching resources and classroom material used throughout my own Reiki training. Your Shinpiden training therefore includes access to the teaching material you need to begin understanding how a complete Reiki course can be delivered.

This includes the manuals and teaching material used across Shoden, Okuden and Shinpiden, together with teacher guidance, lesson structures, handouts, practice instructions, diagrams and teaching aids.

You will be able to see not only what I teach, but how the material is structured, how practices are introduced, what needs explaining carefully and how one level develops naturally into the next.

You are not expected to copy me word for word. Every teacher eventually develops their own way of teaching. However, I want students completing teacher training with me to have a strong, accurate foundation rather than leaving with a certificate and a few handwritten notes.

Dai Kōmyō

Dai Kōmyō is explored properly during Shinpiden. Rather than reducing Dai Kōmyō to a so-called “Master Symbol”, we examine the Japanese words and kanji, the shirushi and jumon, its relationship with great bright light and the wider Japanese ideas which help us understand the teaching more fully. We also explore relevant Buddhist and Japanese historical influences carefully where they help us understand the language and practices surrounding Reiki, without pretending that Reiki itself is simply another Buddhist school. The purpose is to understand Dai Kōmyō as something to practise and contemplate rather than simply another symbol to memorise.

Learning Reiju

Reiju forms an important part of Shinpiden and teacher training. You will continue to receive Reiju during your training and will also learn how Reiju is practised when teaching your own students. We work through this slowly and practically. You will observe it, practise it, repeat it and have the opportunity to ask questions. I do not teach Reiju as somebody installing a special ability into another person. It is part of the teacher-student relationship and an important practice within the system of Reiki.

Becoming a Reiki Teacher

Knowing Reiki and knowing how to teach Reiki are different skills. A person can be an excellent practitioner and still find themselves completely stuck when somebody asks them to teach their first Shoden course.

How long should a practice take?

How do you explain the hara?

How do you teach the Gokai without turning them into affirmations?

How do you demonstrate hands-on Reiki appropriately?

What happens if somebody becomes emotional?

What should you include in a manual?

How do you give Reiju?

What are your professional boundaries?

What do you do when a student asks something you do not know?

These things matter, teacher training therefore runs throughout Shinpiden rather than being treated as a final twenty-minute conversation before somebody receives a Master Teacher certificate.

Three Days, With Continued Development

The formal training takes place over three days. Three days gives us considerably more time than the minimum two-day Shinpiden requirement shown within the professional training guidance, while still allowing the teacher-development element to continue afterwards. Becoming a good Reiki teacher does not happen because somebody has completed a certain number of classroom hours. You continue learning by practising, revisiting the material, observing teaching where appropriate, preparing your own courses and gradually developing confidence. There is no pressure to begin teaching immediately after Shinpiden. Some people will want to teach fairly soon. Others may practise at Shinpiden level for months or years before deciding that teaching is right for them.

Certification

Completion of Shinpiden recognises that you have completed the advanced level of training. Teacher certification also carries responsibility. I want students who eventually teach Reiki under my lineage to understand the system they are passing on, to be able to explain it properly and to feel genuinely prepared to support their own students. For that reason, teacher development is taken seriously rather than treating the words Master Teacher as simply another title gained at the end of a weekend.

Who Can Attend?

Students should already have completed Shoden and Okuden before progressing to Shinpiden. Students trained with Holistic Care Durham will already be familiar with the practices and terminology used throughout the course. If you have trained elsewhere within Usui Reiki Ryōhō, please contact me before booking so that we can look at your previous training together. There can be considerable differences between Reiki courses, particularly at Okuden level, and I would rather identify any gaps before you arrive than expect you to catch up during Shinpiden.

Existing Reiki Masters and Teachers

Existing Reiki Masters and teachers are also welcome to retrain with me. My present Shinpiden and Reiki Teacher programme has developed considerably through continued study, further professional training, research and many months of writing and developing new teaching material. Previous training with Holistic Care Durham does not therefore automatically include every new manual, course, teaching resource or professional development programme created afterwards. Where appropriate, existing students may be offered a separate alumni/refresher training option so that they can update their knowledge without having to repeat everything unnecessarily.

Your Training Includes the Complete Teaching Package

When you complete Shinpiden with me, I want you to leave knowing considerably more than how to perform a Reiki attunement. You should understand what you are teaching, why you are teaching it, how the different parts of Reiki belong together and what responsibility you have towards the people who may eventually call you their teacher. The manuals, lesson material and teaching resources are included because I do not believe good teacher training should finish with the words: “Now go away and work out how to teach it.” That is precisely the part I want to prepare you for. I actually think that last section is one of your strongest selling points. Very few people buying Reiki Master Teacher training will have considered the amount of work involved afterwards in writing three levels of courses, handouts, lesson plans and manuals. You have already created that infrastructure.
