Hello, I'm Leanne

Hiya, I'm Leanne, the woman behind Holistic Care Durham, here in a little corner of County Durham in the North East of England. I'm a wife, mam, author, Reiki teacher and practitioner, and what I call a Folk Seer & Healer. Before opening my own therapy and training centre, I spent years working as an NHS nurse, mainly in general practice. Nursing was a huge part of my life and something I'll always be proud of. It taught me so much about people, their lives, their struggles and just how important it is to be properly listened to and treated with kindness.

Although my work looks very different these days, I've never lost that nursing side of myself. I still believe in good professional standards, being honest with people and making sure everyone who comes through my door feels comfortable, respected and cared for.

My Reiki Practice & Teaching

Reiki has become one of the most important parts of my life, both personally and professionally. I'm a traditional Usui Reiki Ryoho Teacher and Practitioner, a full member of the UK Reiki Federation, and I continue to study the Japanese origins, history and teachings of the system.

My own Reiki training began within a more Western approach, but over the years I found myself wanting to understand what Mikao Usui had originally taught. That curiosity led me much further into the Japanese practices, working with Frans Steine and the importance of cultivating ourselves through daily practice.

Today, I teach Reiki from Shoden through to Shinpiden teacher mentorship, welcoming both complete beginners and experienced practitioners who wish to deepen their understanding. I also run The Reiki Dojo, a community where students can continue learning, practicing and sharing Reiki long after their initial training.

Reiki is something I take very seriously, although I certainly don't believe learning has to be stiff or overly formal. My classes are friendly, supportive and full of discussion, practical experience and sometimes plenty of laughter too. I'm still a student myself, and I think I always will be.

The Folk Seer & Healer

This is another side of me, and one that's been there for as long as I can remember. I've experienced psychic and intuitive impressions since I was young. Sometimes they come through dreams, sometimes as images or feelings when I'm awake, and other times through being out in nature, sitting beside water or going about my ordinary day. I've always been fascinated by the things we experience but don't necessarily have an explanation for.

I have a real love for the old folk ways, particularly the traditions, folklore and landscapes of Northern England. The woods, the coastline, wild plants, changing weather, old stories, charms and the lives of those who walked this land before us all interest me enormously. So the title Folk Seer & Healer feels like a natural way to describe this part of my work. My approach draws upon psychic insight, healing, the natural world and my own exploration of traditional folk practices.

During my Visionary Sessions, I work intuitively with the person in front of me. I allow images, feelings, impressions and sometimes experiences I understand as ancestral or mediumistic to arise naturally. There may be healing, guidance or something that encourages us to look at a situation from a completely different angle. Every session is individual, and I never promise that a particular message or experience will happen.

This is separate from my traditional Reiki treatments and teaching. I think it's important to respect each practice for what it is, without trying to make everything fit beneath the same name.

A Little More About Me

I'm autistic, and understanding this part of myself has helped me make much more sense of how I experience the world. I've always been someone who notices small details, becomes deeply absorbed in subjects that interest me and wants to understand things properly. When something catches my attention, I can happily spend hours researching it, particularly when it involves Reiki history, old manuscripts, folk traditions or the natural world.

I'm also an author, and writing gives me another way to share the subjects I love. Alongside my books, I've created Kokoro Mail Club, a monthly collection of psychic guidance, folklore and little treasures delivered through the post. It's a lovely way of bringing some of my more creative and unusual work into people's homes.

Away from work, I'm happiest with my family, exploring somewhere old and interesting, wandering through woodland or sitting beside the sea. I love places with history, especially those little corners of County Durham and Northumberland where you can spend hours wondering about the people who were there hundreds of years before us.

I've created my therapy and training centre to be somewhere women can feel genuinely welcome. It's warm, cosy and personal, with space to have a chat, ask questions, enjoy a treatment or spend time learning something new.

Whether you come to me for a traditional Reiki treatment, a Visionary Session or to begin your own Reiki training, you'll always receive the same care, honesty and respect. I don't claim to have all the answers, and I don't believe anyone should hand over their own judgement to a healer, psychic or teacher. I can share my experience, offer my skills and support you through the work we do together and if we happen to get chatting about old folklore, ancient healing practices or something wonderfully strange along the way, well, you'll probably have me talking for hours!
