“When the mind and body are met with compassion, Reiki can begin to do its work”

A calm, professional space for Reiki-led therapy and training

When you arrive at Holistic Care Durham, you are welcomed into a private therapy and Reiki training space that has been created with care and comfort in mind.

The space is set away from a busy high street environment, with room to arrive, settle and feel held without being rushed. Whether you are coming for Reiki, massage, reflexology, Tsuboki Japanese facial treatment, Reiki training or mentoring, my intention is always the same: to offer a grounded, respectful and compassionate space where you feel safe, informed and properly supported.

Many people come feeling tired, tense, emotionally out of balance, overwhelmed, disconnected or unsure where to begin. Others come because they feel ready to learn Reiki, deepen their practice or reconnect with themselves in a more honest way.

The pace of the session

My work is not rushed, the pace of your session is an important part of the treatment or training itself. I allow time for you to arrive, speak if you need to, ask questions, understand what will happen, and feel clear before we begin.

This is especially important when working with Reiki, therapeutic touch, the nervous system, emotional overwhelm or body-held tension. People often need a little time before they can fully settle into receiving support. That is not a problem. It is part of the process.

You will not be pushed, forced or expected to respond in a particular way. There is no pressure to talk more than you want to, and there is no need to explain everything. Some people need words. Some people need stillness. Some people need time before they know what they feel. All of this is welcome.

Before your treatment

At the beginning of your appointment, we will briefly discuss how you are feeling, what has brought you in, and anything I need to be aware of. This may include your health, stress levels, injuries, medication, recent experiences, emotional state, comfort needs or any preferences around touch. I will explain what the treatment involves and check consent before we begin. You are always allowed to ask questions, change your mind, request adjustments, or say if something does not feel right.

For Reiki treatments, you remain fully clothed. For massage, reflexology or Tsuboki facial treatments, I will explain clearly what clothing needs to be removed or adjusted, how you will be covered, and what areas will be worked with. Your comfort, dignity and choice matter throughout.

During your session

Each session is shaped by the treatment you have booked, but all of my work is Reiki-led. This means Reiki is not treated as an extra. It is at the centre of how I work, how I hold the space, and how I listen with my hands, presence and attention.

During a Reiki treatment, you will usually lie comfortably on the couch, fully clothed, while Reiki is offered through steady hand placements either lightly on the body or just above, depending on what feels appropriate and consented to.

During massage, reflexology or Tsuboki facial treatments, Reiki is woven through the session while therapeutic touch supports the body. This may include work with areas of physical tension, the feet and lower legs, the face, jaw, scalp, neck, shoulders or full body, depending on the treatment you have chosen.

Some people feel warmth, heaviness, emotional release, waves of tiredness, a sense of ease, or a deeper awareness of the body. Others feel very little at first, then notice the effect afterwards. There is no correct experience to have.

Emotional responses

It is common for people to feel emotional during or after therapeutic work, especially if they have been carrying a lot for a long time. This does not mean anything has gone wrong. Sometimes the body recognises that it no longer has to hold everything quite so tightly. Sometimes being met with care is enough for emotion to rise. Sometimes people realise how tired they are only once they stop.

If emotion comes up, it will be met with compassion and steadiness. You will not be judged, rushed or expected to explain everything. You are also not required to become emotional for the session to be meaningful. Reiki and therapeutic work can support the conditions for the body and mind to settle, but each person responds in their own way.

After your session

At the end of your treatment, I will give you time to come round properly before you sit up. You may feel relaxed, sleepy, clearer, lighter, emotional, grounded or in need of a little time.

We may speak briefly about how you feel and any simple aftercare that may support you. This might include drinking water, resting where possible, allowing a slower evening, noticing changes in the body, or avoiding rushing straight into something demanding if you can.

Some people feel the benefit straight away. Others notice changes over the next day or two. This may be physical, emotional or energetic. You may feel more settled, more tired, more aware of your body, or more able to breathe and think clearly. If anything concerns you after a session, you are welcome to contact me.
